Peperoni Pizzeria

Peperoni Pizzeria
Sigh. Peperoni pizza. Why you so hip? I used to really love pizza, but over the years, I've become disillusioned from too many mediocre experiences from the countless pizza delivery places I've had. The only one that gets me mildly excited is Domino's Pizza, but that's more to do with nostalgia for my army days. My favourite order from Domino's is actually their molten lava chocolate cakes, which is pretty darn impressive. Even though Miss XS assures me that she thinks this recipe has Domino's beat, I'm not so sure about that, and I searched in vain high and low for a molten cake recipe that holds a crust as crisp as the ones that Domino's churn out.

But I've mostly given up on pizza until Peperoni came along. And when I heard about it a year back, I knew that I just had to try. I mean, pizzas the size of a table. What sorcery is this?

Chocolate Lava Cake Recipe

Chocolate Lava Cake Recipe
I was writing a blog post on Domino Pizza's molten lava cakes the other day, and wanted to link the paragraph to this recipe. To my astonishment, I couldn't believe that I haven't shared this recipe yet. I made promises to post a recipe for this, but as in the usual vein, forgot about it.

I remember trying many different recipes before chancing upon this one. I didn't dare pin high hopes on this, seeing how every previous recipe I tried churned out chocolate sponge cupcakes by the dozen instead. But thankfully, I found success with this recipe, even on my first try. This recipe couldn't be easier to follow - or recreate.

Unlike the other Chocolate Molten Lava Cake recipe which requires chocolate bars, this one utilises cocoa powder. Regardless of whichever ingredient you feel more comfortable using, or more likely, whichever you happen to have lying around, there's no reason not to get cracking for this special dessert.

Star Yong Kwang BBQ Seafood

There are two types of zichar stalls: one that you patronise because it's close by, and one where the food is so darn good you don't mind traveling out of your way for. Since I've been talking about zichar anyway, it's only right to share another one of my old favourites. This is a stall I go to at least once every holiday. Well, actually, their business is so good, they have about 3-4 stalls. The stall owners still can't recognise me by sight (yet), but still, a guy can dream.
Their claim to fame is the Salted Egg Spare Ribs, which, when done to a perfect crisp finish and tossed with a generous serving of salted egg sauce, is utterly delicious. It's by far my favourite dish here.*

The Meeting Place

The Meeting Place
I wasn't sure if I wanted to write up on this place, as terrific as it is. an uncle of my friend owns the stall, and we went over for dinner one lazy evening. I struggled with this conflict of interest for a while, but then again, why should I stay silent over this great find?

I was astonished when we got to the restaurant. It was a 10 minutes bus ride from my place, and I must have traversed the area hundreds of time over the last few years. Yet, I had no idea there was even a market there, let alone to know the stall.

The Udder Pancake

The Udder Pancake
Oh. My God. Udder Pancake might just be my new favourite place in Singapore. Is it the delicious food? Check. The all-important self-serving water dispenser every ice-cream store should have? Check. The hipster-ish, tongue-in-cheek emergency boxes scattered around the premise? Check. I walked around the establishment taking pictures like a tourist responsible blogger. The staff judged. Or at least, they would, if they weren't so darn cool with everything. And they know every other customer there wanted to do the same.
Going into cardiac arrest from the rich food? Don't worry. Udder Pancake got you covered.
